Gell Plate Printing
I bought my first Gell Plate two months ago, and since then have been exploring the techniques. Firstly let me reccomend a book “The Gelli Arts Printmakers Handbook” by Jessica Russo Scherr. Its a good place to start to understand techqniques and materials.
The Gell Plate I first bought is A4 size, so lets me create decent size prints and utilise different techniques in the space.
The main difference with this print media and linocut or collograph, is that acrylic paint is used as the medium instead of inks. This makes preparation, mixing and cleaning more straightforward.
I am enjoying getting to grips with techniques such as layering and image transfer, and building up texture.
You will see some of the results in my gallery, I am keeping everything I do, as some “failures” can be re-purposed either for collage or for overprinting, so use as background.
